SCOPE OF THE WORK
Jewel was hired by BC Hydro to completely refurbish the Bridge River BR2 Penstock 1&2. Each penstock is approx. 10 ft diameter and runs 1.4 km from the PIV building down Mission mountain to the Powerhouse located on Seton Lake. This job consisted of cutting, and installing 7 new access ways per penstock, abrasive blasting 144,000 sq ft of lead coating off of the interior of each penstock and replacing it with 50mils of epoxy. Due to the elevated risk of working within a confined space with hazardous materials, Jewel designed custom robotics to enter the penstocks and perform the abrasive blasting and painting operations with little to no manhours inside the confined space during these tasks.
